A Testimony By Luyako Nsamba
My name is Luyako Nsamba. I come from the beautiful and amazing motherland of Zambia, located in Southern Africa. I came to China, Beijing to be specific, for my studies in International Masters for Public Administration, in 2017, at Renmin University of China and recently graduated in July 2019.

However, through my time in Beijing, I came across a common type of event, the “Job Fair”, which took place in many Universities within the city. Each one taught me something new. One common question I faced was, “How is your Chinese?” And always, with a huge smile, my response was, “not so much”. After dropping my CV to many booths and having a lot of hope to receive either a call or email, luck wasn’t on my side. For some reason I was told a good smile shows good attitude and it can take you many places in China. I guess not at a Job fair, with a low skill level in spoken Chinese.

I was now approaching the last few months of my time in China and I still didn’t find a job. Then DUAPA posted something interesting on our DUAPA Community WeChat group about a job fair, specifically themed as “Living My Chinese Dream: Talent Accelerator Open Day” on the 15th of June, 2019 at Haidian Pioneer Park, Haidian District, Beijing, China. Honestly speaking, I had second thoughts about attending this event. At this point I had tried for so long and all my efforts turned out negative. My Chinese language skills were still not good enough. But I decided to go for it.
On the day, I listened to company representatives’ presentations about their companies and what type of employees they were looking for. Thereafter was the chance to have a one-on-one conversation with each representative. I finally approached my current employer, Shao Studio Media Production (Beijing) Co, Ltd. I met the CEO, Ms. Shao Xinying. We had a good conversation and like every other booth, I handed in my CV hoping for the best. However, this time I asked to be added on WeChat. I was certainly not letting this last chance go by just like that. The same words were said to me again, “We will contact you.” I never liked this phrase, and I still don’t.
However, I was called for an interview, the first I ever received from these type of events. I read and practiced everything I needed to know for an interview. The amount of praying that went into this was on another level. At the end of the day, I was successful in my interview and now I have the job, with a legal work visa, all thanks to my DUAPA A AFRICA who have become a leading brand and player in driving human capital and employment for Africans and others across China.

Words cannot express how grateful I am to each individual at DUAPA, and I mean each-and-every-one-of-you!! Such type of events are real and are impactful. Trust me, my family is very happy about this opportunity and God just seems to know how to put things together at the right time. I know I have left out so much but I will end here. Thank you my DUAPA people for making my dream of landing a job a reality!
